Subsidies
The Wigs and Hairpieces Service Payment is a subsidy from Te Whatu Ora that provides financial support for people experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions or treatments.
This subsidy helps reduce the costs associated with purchasing and maintaining wigs, hairpieces, and headwear. If you are dealing with hair loss from conditions such as cancer treatment or alopecia, you may be eligible for this assistance.
At Lin’s Wigs, we offer a selection of high-quality wigs, personalised consultations, and a range of synthetic wigs that are fully covered by the subsidy, so you won’t incur any additional costs. If you wish for us to process your subsidy, please bring a copy of your medical certificate. For more details on eligibility and the application process, please visit
Te Whatu Ora’s dedicated webpage or get in touch with us directly.
How it Works
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be a New Zealand citizen or usually live in New Zealand. You will also need to have a current medical certificate from your specialist or general practitioner. This certificate should include your NHI number and details about your hair loss condition, stating whether it is permanent or temporary.
Choose Your Wig
You can book a free consultation with us for personalised help in choosing your wig. We can assist by making a claim on your behalf to Te Whatu Ora. Alternatively, you can buy the wig yourself and then make a claim to Te Whatu Ora to receive your subsidy.
