How to Choose the Perfect Wig

When it comes to wigs, finding the right one can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re dealing with hair loss, exploring a new look, or prepping for an event, selecting a wig that matches your needs and lifestyle is essential. Here’s everything you need to know to make the perfect choice.

  • Focus on Comfort

Look for breathable wig caps, like lace fronts or monofilament tops, for all-day wear. Proper fittings ensure your wig stays securely in place and feels natural. At Lin’s Wigs, we offer in-store consultations to ensure a perfect fit.

  • Match Your Lifestyle

Active individuals might prefer lighter wigs that are easy to maintain. If you enjoy frequent styling, human hair wigs are your best bet.

  • Consider Your Face Shape

Choose a wig style that complements your face. For example:

    • Round Faces: Opt for layered or voluminous styles.
    • Oval Faces: Most styles will suit you!
    • Square Faces: Soft waves or curls can balance strong jawlines.

Human Hair Wigs VS. Synthetic Wigs

The decision between human hair and synthetic wigs depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and budget. If you value a natural look and feel and are willing to invest time and money, human hair wigs might be your best choice. On the other hand, if you prefer a more affordable, low-maintenance option with plenty of style choices, synthetic wigs could be the way to go.

  • Human Hair Wigs

    Pros

    • Natural look and feel: Human hair wigs offer the most natural appearance and feel. They can be styled just like your own hair, allowing for versatility in looks.
    • Styling flexibility: Can be styled, cut, permed or coloured. You can use heat tools like curling irons and straighteners on human hair wigs, giving you the freedom to change your style as often as you like.
    • Longevity: With proper care, human hair wigs can last longer than synthetic ones, making them a good investment.

    Cons

    • Higher cost: Human hair wigs are generally more expensive due to the natural hair and the labour involved in making them.
    • Maintenance: They require more maintenance, including regular washing and conditioning, to keep them looking their best.
  • Synthetic Wigs

    Pros

    • Affordability: Synthetic wigs are usually more budget-friendly, making them a popular choice for those looking for an economical option.
    • Low maintenance: Synthetic wigs are low maintenance and retain their style even after washing. They’re pre-styled and often ready to wear right out of the box.
    • Colour variety: They come in a wide range of colours and styles, including those that may be difficult to achieve with human hair.

    Cons

    • Longevity: Synthetic wigs generally don’t last as long as human hair wigs, making them less durable over time.
    • Limited heat styling: Most synthetic wigs cannot withstand high heat, so using curling irons or straighteners can damage them.
    • Less natural feel: While synthetic wigs have improved significantly, they may not feel as natural as human hair wigs and can be less breathable.

About Our Wig Construction

When it comes to wigs, finding the right one can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re dealing with hair loss, exploring a new look, or prepping for an event, selecting a wig that matches your needs and lifestyle is essential. Here’s everything you need to know to make the perfect choice.

  • Hand-Tied

    • Construction: Each hair strand is individually hand-tied to a soft, flexible cap.
    • Features: Provides a natural look and feel, with more movement and flexibility. The entire wig cap is typically hand-tied.
    • Benefits: Offers a very realistic appearance and allows for natural movement and styling in any direction. It is often more breathable and comfortable.
    • Disadvantages: Generally more expensive and may require more care.
  • Monofilament

    • Construction: The wig has a thin, sheer mesh material (monofilament) at the top or throughout the wig, where individual hairs are hand-tied.
    • Features: Creates the illusion of natural hair growth from the scalp. The monofilament allows the wearer to part the hair in any direction, and the scalp appears more natural.
    • Benefits: Provides a natural-looking scalp and part. It is also more versatile in terms of styling.
    • Disadvantages: It can be expensive, particularly depending on the size and coverage of the monofilament material used.
  • Lace Front

    • Construction: The front hairline of the wig is made from a delicate lace material, with the hair knots individually tied onto the lace.
    • Features: Creates a natural-looking hairline, allowing for off-the-face styling and a more realistic appearance.
    • Benefits: Provides the most natural hairline, and you can style the hair away from the face. The lace is usually soft and comfortable against the skin.
    • Disadvantages: Lace can be delicate and may require careful handling. The rest of the wig may have a different construction.
  • Wefted Cap

    • Construction: Hair strands are sewn onto strips of fabric or wefts that are then sewn onto the wig cap.
    • Features: The wig is constructed with rows of hair sewn into the cap, which can be machine-made or hand-sewn.
    • Benefits: Generally more affordable and durable. Offers good volume and coverage.
    • Disadvantages: May be less breathable than hand-tied or monofilament wigs. The hair movement may be less natural compared to hand-tied wigs.
